Who and Why: The Somewhere Over the Rainbow (SOTR) conference is a day of professional development primarily addressing the needs of international education administrators to understand sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) diversity, and to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and beyond (LGBTQ+) inclusion in the field of international education. The primary audience are administrators in education abroad, international exchange, and international student and scholar services, particularly those working in higher education. The conference welcomes all those with an interest in SOGI diversity and LGBTQ+ inclusion, especially higher education LGBTQ center professionals, international exchange administrators in government and NGOs, and students and scholars studying international education. This year we wish to expand the SOTR community even further by encouraging the participation of researchers, theorists, activists, and organizers whose work relates to our principal themes around international education and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Where and When: Saturday, June 1, 2019 -- Hosted at the University of Maryland, College Park, located inside the Capital Beltway and accessible on the Washington, D.C. metro system via the Green line, as well as by the MARC commuter rail (Camden Line).

Registration and Discount Details: Sliding scale pricing for all budgets may be available by request, but funds from conference organizers will not be available for travel, lodging, etc. A special rate is also available for University of Maryland, College Park constituents (staff, faculty, students) -- please contact [email protected] if you don't have the UMD constituent code and need it or if you need to register under the sliding scale pricing.

All ticket sales will close on May 30, 2019, but earlier registrations are suggested as some ticket prices increase over time and tickets may run out. Additionally, refunds for tickets are not possible, however you may opt to have someone else use your ticket in your place by contacting the organizers.

The conference takes place at the Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center at UMD, College Park (arrive to Room 2208).
