4th Annual Cuddle Up Day Celebration/ Cuddle Marathon

Sunday, January 6, 2018 10:30 am (soft start time)

Do you love to cuddle with other people who know the value of a good cuddle? Do you like wearing pj's, sweats, or fuzzy socks? Then, you probably want to put Jan 6th in your calendar and make your way down to the cuddliest place you know. Don't worry, if you can't get out of bed before noon or you have to go to work at 2pm. You can still come! Let's make this year even better than last year!

ABOUT CUDDLE UP DAY

I have scoured the internet without finding a single clue as to the origin of Cuddle Up Day. I do know that it is a national holiday! It has been around for at least 5 years. It is always celebrated on Jan. 6th. Lastly, cuddles, snuggles, and warmth are encouraged. That's all I know, but frankly, do we need to know more?

Since this is a fairly new holiday, we get to define it for ourselves. I say we don our cuddle apparel and see what happens. I suspect we will be creating even more new traditions this year.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?/ CUDDLE ETIQUETTE

No worries if you can't arrive by 10:30 am. I will run through the agreements a couple of times. Once we have established a safe container, we will have a few optional connection exercises. These are a great way to get to know some of the other people in the room and explore boundaries before jumping straight into the cuddling.

Come for the cuddles. Come for the awesome conversation. Come to check out the cuddly space. Come to show off your pj's/ Any excuse will do. This is the third annual celebration. Let's make it twice as good as last year!

In order to promote comfort and safety within the space, I will have a designated queer/ lgbt+ room. This will be an optional safer space for those who identify with this community. No allies please.

Agreements

  1. In order to maintain a non-sexual environment, clothing stays on the whole time. Comfy clothing such as pj's/ sweats are encouraged.
  2. Everyone involved is encouraged to make specific requests if they would like to engage in some form of touch/ cuddling. Please respond with an honest yes or no. If you are unsure, please say no. You can re-visit this request later if you like.
  3. If you feel uncomfortable/ need to shift positions at any time, please let your cuddle buddy/ buddies know right away.

Accessibility Notes: There are 5 steps to enter the first floor apartment where this event is held. There is a couch, a futon, and a few chairs available for seating/ laying alone or next to others. There are several mattresses laid directly on the floor (not elevated). With the exception of the couch, all furniture and pads can be moved pretty easily if needed. Extremely quiet building. No flashing lights. My roommate recently adopted a small dog. The dog is spending most of his time in my roommate's room which is where he will be during the event. All blankets and most mattresses are being kept in my room/ the linen closet. These are both dog free zones.

Cleanliness Notes: Please be mindful of personal hygiene when attending these events. Because we are all generally pretty close together, and some of us are cuddling; this is helpful to the overall experience of the group. If you have had a long day prior to the event, you may want to bring deodorant, a change of clothes, a wash cloth, etc in order to freshen up. Please also try to avoid using lots of perfume/ strong smelling sprays/ lotions.
