This training session will empower those in the sports sector to improve their knowledge of understanding of working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people within their sports, to be able to respond to the varied needs of LGBTI people, and to understand how discrimination manifests in such environments. The training will provide what you need in order to meet your equality duties with respect to these groups, and will provide tools and resources to support your work.

By the end of the course, participants will:

• Have improved understanding and confidence in explaining terms such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex.
• Understand and identify the barriers for LGBTI people in accessing sport.
• Identify and tackle homophobia and transphobia in a sports context.
• Have improved confidence in supporting coaches, players and others in the sports system who identify as LGBTI.
• Identify sources of help and support in their work on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Training is targeted at the sports sector including groups, associations and SGBs, and is an entry level / basic awareness course suitable at all levels, whether you are a sports officer, manager, athlete, coach or volunteer.
