Unite the Union celebrates 30 years of campaigning for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans + rights. 1989 - 2019
Come and join us to celebrate 30 years of Unite the Union campaigning for LGBT+ Rights as part of LGBT History month.
With an Artistic Performance from the highly celebrated Tom Marshman, and guest speaker Peter Purton (retired TUC LGBT+ Officer)
Peter Purton
Peter is the author of:
“Champions of Equality: trade unions and LGBT rights in Britain”
An acclaimed read that highlights the critical role of trade unions in the struggle for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans rights in the UK.
Peter was the TUC LGBT officer from 1998 until retirement in 2016, and has campaigned for LGBT rights since the 1970s.
Tom Marshman
Tom has been creating performances for over 10 years, and has showcased his work at venues such as The Arnolfini, Bristol Old Vic, Oval House, Chapter Arts Centre, Basement Brighton to name just a few. He has even performed at Festivals around the UK including National Review of Live Art, Inbetween Time and White Nights.
His works have been described as “unapologetically sentimental and loveable for it” [Tim Atack, Venue Magazine]
Most recently, Tom has been commissioned by the Camden People’s Theatre to create a artistic piece exploring real life stories from LGBTQ communities
The event will be a chance to meet others from the LGBTQ+ community, as well as those who support equality for all.
