DISRUPTION by LEAG

What happens when women dare to speak the unspeakable? To take the little worn path of female self-knowledge and fulfilment? What happens when a woman dares to be selfish?

Disruption – the theme of an evening of poetry and prose readings to mark Black History Month 2018 featuring emerging writers Sandra Brown Springer and Remi-Lyn Brown.

These women, mother and daughter, explore the intersect of multiple identities through writing, using art to analyse and dissect their environments and experiences. Issues they explore include family dynamics, female consciousness, gender and sexuality, race and violence.

Remi-Lyn has completed a collection of poetry entitled “these are the most terrifying thoughts” published by SXWKS and in 2015 co-founded AZ-MAG, an online publication centring around the experiences of British LGBT BMEs.

Sandra, her mother, is a proud member of Out@UCL and has recently been shortlisted for the Nick Darke Award 2018.

Join us for a special evening on Friday 26th October as mother and daughter share their work and offer some insight into the themes that have inspired their creativity.
