Edinburgh Napier University School of Arts and Creative Industries (SACI) would like to invite you to an evening celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride, culture and intersectionality around the world. This is the first event of the new Edinburgh Napier Queer Arts Collective (ENQAC), which hopes to host sessions and presentations each trimester.

Please forward this invite to anyone who may be interested. This event is open to the public, so we would love to have members of the wider LGBT+ Community come to join us.

Please join us from 18:30 until 20:30 in room E14 of Edinburgh Napier University's Merchison Campus, 10 Colinton Road, EH10 5DT.

In the first hour of the event, we will be showing some trailers for some wonderful LGBT+ centred films from around the world, we will be introduced to some books of prose and poetry for those more textually inclined, and we’ll hear a little about the cultures in which they were created. In the 2nd hour, you will be free to chat and socialise, whether about the topics discussed or just getting to know people. We hope this will be a more comfortable event for those who might struggle with the crowds, noise and physicality of events like the annual Pride march. We respect your needs and your inclusion is important to us.

Poetry, Indonesia, 2019.

Light-hearted, down to earth poetry about all aspects of living as a queer person in Indonesia, raised as a Catholic. We will look at gender expression in Indonesian language and how this benefits and hinders queer Indonesians.

Film, Kenya, 2018.

A film about two young, queer women who fall in love while their fathers are both running for political office, and the different attitudes and priorities of parents in such a situation where homosexuality is illegal. Constitutional rights, censorship and governmental international aspiration.

Accessibility:

Microphones will be used throughout the event. If you’d like to contribute at any point, pop your hand up and we’ll bring a microphone over to you.

Room E14 is accessible by lift a quick lift. Unfortunately, the accessible bathrooms are at the bottom floor, but this can be reached by the same lift.The room will be laid out to allow for wheelchairs and people with guide dogs to navigate easily.

Assistance dogs are welcome. Please let us know if you have any allergies to fur, or will be attending with a dog so we can advise anyone with allergies ahead of time.

You are welcome to come and go as you please between our start time of 18:30 and end time of 20:30. Please make yourself comfortable.

Feel free to stim, tic or do what you need to be comfortable and well.

Travel:

Merchiston campus is served from the centre of town by Lothian Buses services 11 and 16 which are roughly every 5 minutes, and from Sighthill and Craiglockhart campuses by Lothian Bus service 36 which is roughly every 20 minutes. These buses all stop at Holy Corner, allowing for travel along the flat for the remaining 5 minute walk to Merchiston campus. Upon leaving, the same services stop at Holy Corner again, still roughly every 5 minutes.

To reach the room, enter the main entrance of Merchiston Campus. There is a ramp. Turn right and walk straight along the corridor to the lift. Take the lift to floor E, which is marked with both E and 3 in the lift. Come out of the lift and turn left and left again. Go straight along the corridor and room E14 is on your right hand side, marked by a room number outside the door. There are front and rear doors to the room if you wish to enter and exit during the event. You are welcome to use either door.

This is a dry event, so please attend sober and do not take alcohol or drugs while here.
