Come along to our first panel event where we will be delving into gender. We will be joined by two amazing panelists Fope Olaleye and Sophie Hoque. 

Fope Olaleye is the 2019/20 NUS Black Students’ Officer. They are a Politics graduate from Newcastle University and Anti-Oppression facilator and educator. They focus primarily on on decolonial practice and the experiences of Black Women and QTIPOC. They have been featured in Dazed, i_D, BBC Radio 1xtra and are a regular guest speaker at universities across the country leading workshops on what decolonisation means for gender and education.

Sophie Hoque is a final year medical student with a BSc in Global and Public Health, in which she studied Gender, Sexuality and Health. She has campaigned for liberation groups throughout her time at Medical School, splitting the Student’s Union Role she held in 2016-17 into a separate Women’s Representative and Disabilities and SLD Representative. When Welfare Representative of her Student’s Union in 2018-19, she worked with the Medical School to increase diversity in the curriculum and ran/supported BME, Disability and Mental Health, LGBT+ and Women’s events with a view to increase awareness of intersectionality. She particularly enjoyed organising Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Week, which included the event ‘Exploring Female Sexual Dysfunction’, a topic largely ignored by the undergraduate medical curriculum.
