Focus on the Future III - Charities v Social Enterprise

A half day workshop exploring the relationship between Charities and Social Enterprise in Scotland. Do they provide healthy competition or is there a conflict of interest?

An opportunity to discuss and debate the transformation of social welfare and social justice organisations within Scotland which has seen a shift away from the traditional charitable status towards new forms of organisations for "social enterprise", a mingling of both cultures or hybrids of the two. A chance to speculate about the what’s and why's and to gain a clearer picture from different perspectives. Perhaps most importantly, it will help us learn how to make the most of this changeable landscape to support disadvantaged people and causes.

Our panel members are

  •     Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive of SCVO who would like the third sector in Scotland to hold on to its values, its strong sense of social justice and history of innovation and to stay passionate but whilst evolving with the times
  •     Zahra Hedges, Business Adviser CEIS who works with social enterprises to helping them maximise their social impact through business.
  •     MDN member Professor Gareth Morgan, The Kubernesis Partnership an experienced management consultant and writer on charity accounting and regulation and expert in the field of charity legislation in England and Scotland
  •     Keith Wimbles, Chief Officer of Voluntary Action Fund who has wide experience of funding, the third sector, transnational programmes and regeneration

The half day workshop will end at 1.00pm but please join us for a networking lunch from 1.00pm -2.00pm (bring your own lunch). The event is open to members of MDN and their guests.
