Hidden Harm LGBT+ Hate Crime Workshop - David Edgley (FREE)

NCVS is hosting a week of workshops from Monday 25 March - Friday 29 March 2019 that are designed to extend the foundation knowledge gained at our Hidden Harm Skills-building Conference on 18 March.

This half day workshop delivered by David Edgley will enable staff and volunteers within smaller community and voluntary organisations to increase awareness of LGBT+ issues, explore LGBT+ hate crime and understand how to support those at risk of harm.

Along with general LGBT+ awareness, it will include the following elements:

  •      The frequency and nature of LGBT+ hate crime and its consequences
  •      Some of the causes of LGBT+ hate crime
  •      How the law has changed over the past 140 years
  •      Why LGBT+hate crime is under-reported and how this situation can be improved
  •      What positive steps individuals and organisations can take
  •      What support mechanisms are available

About David Edgley
David Edgley is a volunteer on Notts LGBT+ Network (a 44 year old LGBT charity providing information and support to LGBT people) and also on Nottinghamshire’s Rainbow Heritage LGBT History Project. He is a founder member of both organisations and has given training and presentations to over 90 organisations and groups.

This event is funded by the Community Safety Fund 2018-19. It is delivered by NCVS in partnership with the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and voluntary sector trainers. Tackling "hidden crime" has been identified as an emerging issue in the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Plan (2015-2018 refreshed).
