Madrid hosts LesGaiCineMad, the most important LGTB film event in the Spanish speaking world. In 2018, it hosts the 23rd edition with a complete programme of films on emotional diversity.

Throughout its history, it has become the natural leader of Spanish and Latin American productions for the rest of the world. Its work in the discovery, subtitling and release of Spanish-American productions have made  LesGaiCineMad a window for LGTB Spanish film for distributors, buyers, producers and international LGTB festival programmers. Spain has legendary LGTB productions with films by the likes of Pedro Almodóvar, Lucía Puenzo or Julián Hernández.

The event has competitive sections dedicated to feature films, short films and documentaries. The winners are chosen by the public attending the functions, with two screenings at different times for each film. Since 2003, the Jury Prize has also been awarded, in which different films are selected based on cultural, aesthetic or social grounds.
