In celebration of LGBT+ Month, the School of Politics & International Relations, Queen Mary University of London welcomes Family Law Solicitor and Law Society’s LGBT+ National committee member, Scott Halliday to discuss the role of human rights law on LGBT+ cases in the UK. Drawing on Scott’s expertise and experience leading cases on same-sex parenting, civil partnerships and transgender parenting, the lecture will explore the laws and policies which come to shape the experience of LGBT+ parenting in the UK.

The European Convention on Human Rights exist to recognise and protect human rights. The development of LGBT+ family law rights has relied on the European Convention and its interpretive methods , both to its detriment and to its advantage. We are in a true period of flux for LGBT+ people and their rights in the family law sphere and beyond. There is progress, but with it comes new hurdle and issues to address. The battleground is as much in the Courts as it is in Parliament.
