LGBT-inclusive Relationships and Sex Education in primary schools

Relationships Education and Health Education will be statutory in all primary schools from September 2020. The draft statutory guidance recommends that LGBT specific content is 'integral throughout'.

This one-day training introduces participants to the legal requirements underpinning an LGBT-inclusive approach and explores how sexual orientation and gender identity can be integrated in an age-appropriate way across all areas of the new curriculum.

Participants will have the opportunity to review a wide range of resources and to trial approaches for use in the classroom. The course is interactive, with opportunities for planning and learning from colleagues.

Training outcomes

  •    Clear knowledge of new legislation, Ofsted requirements and equalities duties
  •    Confidence to use key terms and age-appropriate language in the classroom
  •    Awareness of a range of tools and approaches to ensure all teaching is inclusive of diverse families and relationships
  •    Practical understanding of how to update existing materials, policies and approaches
  •    Strategies for responding to concerns from teachers, parents and the wider community

eLearning short course: Introduction to LGBT-inclusive RSE

Our popular eLearning course as been updated and is available to participants to support learning with colleagues. This 40-minute course is free to participants and can be used to support whole-staff inset and twighlight events.

My work is cross-phase, should I also book on to the Primary/secondary course?

No, we do not recommend that you book on to both courses. Please contact us if you work at both primary and secondary level to discuss your needs.
