Following the success of their Skills Sharing Days in London and Liverpool last year, the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group invite you to an afternoon of project sharing and discussion. Project presentations will include opportunities for questions, enabling a consideration of issues such as: funding; interviews and outputs, and archiving.
LGBTQ oral history is a vibrant area which has the potential to bring together community projects and those working in an academic environment; we would like to welcome those from any background and with any level of experience.
Speakers include:
Veronica McKenzie – Haringey Vanguard, BAME LGBTQ+ activism in Haringey heritage project.
Greg Pickup – OtherStories, LGBT history in and around Derbyshire; including insight into National Lottery Heritage Fund funding.
Evelyn Pittman – Opening Doors London
Clare Summerskill – Author, playwright and oral historian, on connections between oral history and verbatim theatre
Dr Emma Vickers – Senior lecturer in History at Liverpool John Moores University, on Dry Your Eyes Princess, a collaboration with trans military veterans
Dr Jane Traies – Author of Now You See Me, a collection of lesbian life stories.
Steven Dryden – British Library curator, on archived LGBTQ oral histories.
Dr Sharon Webb – Lecturer in Digital Humanities at the University of Sussex, on digital archiving and storage, and working with the digital preservation of Queer In Brighton oral histories.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but not lunch.
Registration from 12.15pm for a 12.30pm start.
