Join us on this free short course over two evenings in February where we will cover what you need to know to become a effective Sports Buddy and to support the participation of LGBT+ in sports and physical activities across the region. Our courses are designed to be accessible, informative, challenging and fun!
The course will cover:
- Working respectfully with lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.
- An introduction to the issues which impact on the mental health of LGBT+.
- Basic skills in therapeutic communication skills e.g Motivational Interviewing, Solution focused brief therapy and aspects of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programme) effective communication.
- Appropriate sign posting (covering mental health services, support and other sports groups/activities).
Attendee's will receive a certificate upon completion.
Who is this course for?:
- Course if for anyone who would like to learn how they can support others who identify as lesbian, gay, bi and/or trans to access the benefits of sports and physical activity.
- Attendee's can be from any demographic background

FAQs
What is the Total Health Project? - Its an initiative by Yorkshire MESMAC. Which is funded by Comic Relief for the next 3 years and aims to break down the barriers to health and wellness that young gay, bi and trans men face.
What will we do at the session? - Each 2 hour session will involve a combination of training and workshop style activities designed to cover a range of different topics which are outlined above.
Will I have to speak in front of people? - Their will be some opportunities to get involved and work with others, but no one will be forced to talk if they don't want to.
What if I can't make both sessions? - Attendance at both sessions is essential in order to complete the course. We do have alternative course dates available.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?- The venue is TBC but it will be in Leeds City Center and very easily accessible by both train and bus. Please contact us if you need support with transport.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?- No we will have a list of sign ups.
