Following the success of our previous three conferences, our next two events will explore 'intersectionality'; how LGBT issues interact with other aspects of diversity. Our programme is sure to provide something for people working in all areas of the ambulance service.

With the recent increase in the number of violent attacks on LGBT people is it important to consider the causes, and how we can ensure our staff remain safe at work. At the same time, we can provide valuable support to to patients and link them to hate crime reporting mechanisms. Several of our workshops seek to address these issues.

Continuing our theme of practical solutions for ambulance staff, we will have workshops on supporting the mental health of our control room staff and improving care to patients living with HIV. The latter follows a survey of patients by the National Ambulance LGBT Network.

For those attending for the first time we have workshops that provide an overview of the issues for LGB and transgender people and how we can work to provide effective care for patients and support for staff.

Other Features

The conference will feature a market place of supporting organisations and a parade of vintage vehicles outside the venue. We hope to have a selection of vintage vehicles from the National Emergency Services Museum and the Ambulance Heritage Society.

Registration

This year we will be adopting the same registration procedure as our 2018 conference. Each Ambulance Trust will have ten places to allocate to their local network members and people theat have influence on the diversity agenda with their service. Registration will be available from Monday 8 July and delegates will need the registration code to be able to book their place.

The first round of registration will close on Sunday 18 August, after which any spare places will be made freely available to NHS ambulance staff and Student Paramedics.

Places for the 2018 conference were allocated very quickly and we recommend anyone interested in attending should contact their local LGBT Network as soon as possible.

Please note: Places for the conference are free but please note a £50 non-attendance fee will be imposed for people that do not attend and fail to cancel their place.
