Project background:

Opening Doors London works to support the older LGBT+ population in the capital, many of whom are socially isolated, cut off from family and friends and not in contact with appropriate services, or still hiding their sexuality or gender identity. They provide information, events and support services specifically for older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans people. Research into public understanding is essential to help shape their work to challenge perceptions and advocate for the older LGBT+ community.

Volunteer challenge(s):

- Attending a briefing on the lives and needs of older LGBT+ people. 
- Designing a short survey with the Opening Doors team surrounding perceptions of older LGBT+ people.
- Carrying out surveys at 3 local locations: Tavistock Square Gardens, The British Library and Kings Cross Station.
- Re-grouping to collate, analyse and discuss results, which will be used to inform educational workshops.

Could you be your group’s storyteller?

Do you love taking photos, or perhaps you enjoy writing? We’re looking for at least one keen person for each group project to document the day through photos, perhaps writing a blog and posting on social media. This is so we can see all the great work everyone is doing and raise the profile of the charities we’re working with. Email your project’s champion and copy in [email protected] if you’re interested!

Interested in sharing your professional skills with a community project?

We are looking for people that want to share their workplace expertise with community projects, previously supported during Community Action Summer Season. We will be running a skill-sharing session in September, where volunteers will be tasked with tackling problems on a variety of areas that the community projects are facing, including finance, marketing, fundraising and legal advice.
