Do you have a song that’s been important in your life? One song that inspired you, got you through hard times, or helped you celebrate good times? We are Out Aloud, Sheffield’s LGBT choir, and we’ve been sharing our songs with each other and hearing the stories behind them. Now we want to share some of them with you.

On Friday 1 May 2020 we will be celebrating our fourteenth year with a concert at the iconic Abbeydale Picture House, and we would love you to join us.

We will be performing a fabulous range of songs, from Patti Smith to New Order and John Grant, each chosen by a member of the choir and arranged for us by our Musical Director, Val Regan.

We’ll be joined for the second half of the evening by musicians from the Bogha-Frois project (Gaelic for rainbow). This Scottish traditional music collective bring LGBT+ stories into folk music and features several award-winning stars of the folk scene.

Who are Out Aloud?

Out Aloud is Sheffield’s LGBT community choir. We are a not for profit, non-auditioned, mixed choir with around 70 members and we have been singing together since 2006.

We have performed at music festivals and Pride all over the UK, and beyond, including Dublin, Paris and Germany. Sheffield is our home and we’re never more proud than when we are singing in our city, making LGBT+ lives visible and sharing our stories.

You may have seen us in the Winter Gardens where we sing each Christmas. This is a chance to spend a whole evening with us in the fantastic Abbeydale Picture House, an historic Grade II listed former cinema on Abbeydale Road.

More about Bogha-frois

Bogha-frois are a collective of folk musicians brought together through their LGBT+ Voices in Folk project. This project saw LGBT+ folk musicians from across the country come together to write, collaborate and perform songs in the folk tradition, telling stories about life as a member of the LGBT community.

Supported by Creative Scotland and Outspoken Arts Scotland, the project culminated with their showcase concert at Celtic Connections in February.
