Eligibility

This is a half-day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.

This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Allsorts, West Sussex County Council and WestSussex CCGs.

Benefits and learning outcomes:

This training will explore the issues and challenges that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Unsure (of their sexual orientation or gender identity) children and young people face, how they are impacted by these, and how best to support them.

We will learn ways to make our services safer and more LGBT inclusive by exploring ways of identifying and challenging homophobia, bi and transphobia at home, school, college or work.

The course will cover:

•    Examine relevant legislation and current LGBTU definitions & terminology
•    Explore the challenges faced by LGBTU children and young people and the impact of these
•    Explore how to challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and name-calling
•    Examine how to create an LGBTU inclusive and safe environment
•    Review the services and support systems available to LGBTU children and young people

Getting to the Venue

The Shoreham Centre is five minutes walk from Shoreham Train station. There is a public car park behind the building. This is 50p an hour for the first 4 hours then a £1.00 an hour after that.

Timings and breaks

The course runs from 1.30pm - 4.30pm.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee with also be provided in the mid-afternoon break. We will try to provide a caffeine free option but this cannot be guaranteed.
