Who gets to act white?

In “Acting White”, director Mayowa Osinubi explores this question and many like it. Dissecting the origin of the phrase “Act White” in the context of contemporary America, Mayowa explores the implications of the phrase’s role in defining Whiteness and, by extension, revealing Blackness.

The film breaks down racial stereotypes that we all accept–consciously or subconsciously–while digging into how this phrase impacts mental health, the psyche, and self-identity.

Join Mayowa at the NIGHT EMBASSY for a screening of the film followed by a Q&A. Originally from Atlanta, Mayowa is a German Chancellor Fellow, a stand-up comedian, a YouTuber, and the founder of ISSA Comedy Show—the first and biggest comedy showcase highlighting the voices of Black, PoC, and LGBT comedians in the city.

This event is open to people of all identities, but we ask allies and guests who plan to join this event to be mindful of the purpose of this event, and be aware of any space they may be taking up.
