Did you know that teaching about sexual health will be part of the requirements for statutory RSE in secondary schools from September 2020?
This CPD course is for teachers new to RSE or wishing to develop their confidence to teach about sexual development, genital anatomy and sexual health. Experienced sexual health doctor and trainer, Dr Eleanor Draeger, will explore how to plan and deliver effective teaching and learning around:
Participants will explore how each of these topics maps across a comprehensive programme of RSE that is compliant with new legislation. There will be opportunities to assess a wide range of quality-assured resources for learning about sexual development, including what normal genitals look like and how to know if your genitals are healthy. Participants will explore approaches for facilitating safe and open discussions about sexual rights and responsibilities, exploring contemporary issues such as genital cosmetic surgery, assisted fertility and HIV transmission, treatment and prevention.
The focus will be on meeting young people’s need for RSE which presents a positive view of human sexuality and medically accurate information about sexual development and sexual and reproductive health. The training will model LGBT+ inclusive approaches and attention will be given to meeting the needs of pupils with SEN.
This course is part of a suite of CPD opportunities to support schools as they get ready for statutory Relationships and Sex Education in September 2019.
