Tent Talk | Lucas Malet

Kingsley's youngest daughter, Lucas Malet, aka Mary Kingsley - blazed her own trail in her personal life and views on the New Woman

About this Event

Kingsley’s daughter Mary St. Leger Kingsley (who used the pen name “Lucas Malet”) was a best-selling novelist in the early 1900s, yet has since fallen into almost total neglect. Far from showing deference to her father’s example, her personal life and views on the New Woman and spirituality saw Mary blaze her own trail. Join literary scholars Jane Ford and Alexandra Gray of universities of Teesside and Portsmouth for an introduction to this remarkable figure – and a celebration of these scholars’ new book: Lucas Malet: Dissident Pilgrim. 45mins plus Q&A

Tent Talks are part of the Charles Kingsley bicentennial. See other interesting speakers in our Tent Talk series: ck200.live/boxoffice
