Morning Seminar with Jane Elliott: “The Anatomy of Prejudice”

The Anatomy of Prejudice is a four-hour seminar with Ms. Jane Elliott, an anti-racism activist and educator as well as feminist and LGBT activist. A former schoolteacher, she is best known for her "Blue Eyes - Brown Eyes"exercise that she devised for her third grade class the day after Rev. Martin Luther King was assassinated. Ms. Elliott went on to teach the exercise about prejudice worldwide and many of those who have experienced this exercise say it is LIFE-CHANGING!

Ms. Elliott, who introduces and discusses the Peabody Award-winning film, "The Eye of the Storm", uses the film to explore with the audience the problems of racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, and ethnocentrism, and the responsibility shared by all of us for illuminating them in and eliminating them from ourselves and our environment.

Seminar participants will be encouraged to discuss the issues raised as they relate to their own workplace and will also be encouraged to discuss the materials presented in the handouts. They will gain valuable tools, resources and activities designed to help them identify their own racist statements, behaviors, and attitudes. They will leave with added insights to the problems of the -isms with which we are all confronted.
