On 20 June 2019, Keele University – in partnership with Healthwatch Stoke-on-Trent – will run a one-day event on trans-inclusive education. The event is supported by the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion (KISI), Keele University.

Despite progress in transgender rights over the last decade, many young trans people continue to experience educational inequalities and wider forms of discrimination as a result of their gender identity. This event seeks to create a setting for individuals with a speciality and interest in trans-inclusive education and will explore how trans inequalities can be addressed in education contexts through engagement with academics, charities, and organisations.

The event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr Anna Carlile (Goldsmiths, University of London). There will also be presentations by Mermaids UK, researchers, organisations, and individuals working with the trans community in order to identify and promote the social inclusion of trans individuals in schools and society more generally.

The event is aimed at a wide audience and has two key aims:

1) to tackle issues of gender inequalities affecting trans youth;
2) to promote pragmatic approaches to supporting trans youth in schools and higher education.

Parking & Parking Permits

Parking is available on campus for the event and their are two parking areas based at Keele Hall, with an overflow parking area based at Lindsay. If you head to Keele Hall when you arrive for the event our parking attendants will direct you to the nearest parking spaces.

Please note that from Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.30pm a pay and display system operates for parking. However parking for this event is free and you will be sent parking permits via email by the event organiser nearer the event.

Parking permits must be displayed in the vehicle windscreen to avoid having to pay or receive a fine. We ask that all attendees read the parking permits for advice on parking for the event. Parking onsite is subject to availability. We recommend car sharing or use of public transport as parking is limited. We ask that vehicles are parked in a marked parking bay and not parked illegally, e.g. blocking any entrance/exit, on double yellow lines, on pavements, hatched markings, or in a disabled bay without the necessary badge.
