Beyond Placemaking, City Repair investigates Place Justice. We look at questions such as who has access to make place or do we all feel comfortable and safe in public to participate? This workshop explores and builds understanding around being Transgender in America.

Transgender in America (3 hours) Culturally enforced binary gender role stereotypes have erased the inclusive and expansive understandings of gender identity and expression embraced by indigenous cultures and customs. This oppression has marginalized and silenced the voices of gender expansive children, youth and adults for more than 400 years. “Transgender in America” facilitates conversation and reconsideration of a binary gender understanding through greater awareness of historical events, laws, ideology and personal stories at this time when violence against Transpeople is on the rise. This event is hosted by City Repair and facilitated by Lewis and Clark’s TransActive Gender Center.
