What are the 16 days of Action?
The 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence against Women run from 25th November (the UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women) to the 10th December (Human Rights Day). The 16 Days of Action is a global initiative, seeking to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.
Locally, over 16 Days, a range of agencies, groups and individuals are coming together to work to end all forms of violence and abuse with events ranging from awareness raising in the community, making sure people know where to go for help and support and sharing stories about people's experiences, recovery and work. The year BHCC and ESCC are launching 16 Days of Action with a full day conference.
BHCC and ESCC 16 Days Conference
This full day conference will focus on two key areas; half of the day will highlight learning on working with LGB and/or T* client groups experiencing domestic abuse, whilst the second part of the day will focus on local and national learning from working with perpetrators of abuse.
Working with LGB and/or T* Clients
This session will share the learning from the domestic abuse accommodation-based project, comprising of partners in Manchester, Brighton and London, three cities identified as beacon cities for LGBTQ communities. The event will be the launch of the final report and will highlight future recommendations for domestic abuse services for LGBTQ people. As well as have local specialists talk on services available, JasnaMagić is a research and policy officer at Galop where she currently leads on a national LGBT DVA advocacy and engagement project Recognise & Respond.
Working with Perpetrators of Abuse
The second part of the event will focus on working with perpetrators of abuse, and will include and input from Women's Aid Federation and Respect's 'Make a Change' pilot. The Pilot builds on work previously established through 'Change that Lasts' primarily focused on supporting victims of abuse. It will also give an oversight of 'The Drive' pilot delivered by Respect, SafeLives and Social Finance.
