Mental health problems are the leading cause of sickness absence from work with 70 million workdays lost each year, representing a cost of £2.4 billion to UK employers. Simultaneously, studies have revealed that LGBTQ individuals are 3 to 4 times more likely to experience mental health issues such as anxiety and depression when compared to heterosexual cis-gendered colleagues.
Whilst alarming, these figures illustrate the opportunity for a targeted approach to improving the mental wellbeing of LGBTQ employees in the workplace.
Dr David McLaughlan is a consultant psychiatrist and expert in LGBTQ mental health. During this talk, he leads a discussion about the current areas of need as well as some practical tools to promote mental wellbeing for us all.
